Password Security Policies

Beginner

Configure meaningful password requirements and understand what FileMaker can and cannot enforce.

What you'll learn

  • FileMaker's available password settings
  • Setting a minimum password length and complexity
  • Password expiration and change enforcement
  • What local account password policies cannot do

FileMaker's local account password settings are basic compared to enterprise identity systems -- but they matter for solutions that use local accounts. Understanding what is configurable, what is not, and where the limits are helps you build a realistic password policy.

Available password settings

File > Manage > Security > Password Settings lets you configure: minimum password length (recommend at least 12), require mixed case, require numbers, require symbols, prevent password reuse (last N passwords), require change on next login, and set an expiration interval in days.
