Extended Privileges
IntermediateExtended privileges unlock specific access methods -- Data API, ODBC, Admin API, WebDirect. Know what each one enables.
What you'll learn
- What extended privileges are and how they differ from record permissions
- The key extended privileges and what each enables
- How to assign extended privileges to a privilege set
- The fmrest privilege required for Data API access
Extended privileges are add-ons to a privilege set that enable specific network or integration features. Without the correct extended privilege, no amount of record-level permission will let a user access the Data API or connect via ODBC. They are a separate, explicit gate.

Extended privileges vs. record permissions
Record permissions say what data a user can touch. Extended privileges say how they can connect. A user with full record access still cannot use the Data API unless their privilege set has the `fmrest` extended privilege enabled.
