Authentication Methods Available for WebDirect
IntermediateWhich authentication methods work with WebDirect and how to configure each for your deployment scenario.
What you'll learn
- Local accounts in WebDirect -- how the login form works
- External Server (AD/LDAP) authentication via WebDirect
- OAuth for WebDirect -- single sign-on with Google or Microsoft
- The Guest account for public WebDirect access
WebDirect supports multiple authentication methods -- the same ones available for FileMaker Pro, plus OAuth for browser-based SSO flows. The right choice depends on your user base and existing IT infrastructure. This lesson maps each authentication method to the WebDirect login flow.

Local accounts in WebDirect
The default WebDirect login shows a username/password form. Users with local FileMaker accounts enter their credentials here. The login form submits over HTTPS. No additional configuration is needed -- WebDirect uses local accounts out of the box as long as the account has the `fmwebdirect` extended privilege.
